The **Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)** is a flagship initiative by the Government of India, launched with the objective of "Housing for All." It aims to provide affordable housing to eligible urban and rural poor across the country. The scheme is broadly divided into two components:
- PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U): Addresses housing needs in urban areas.
- PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G): Focuses on providing housing in rural areas.
Key Components and Benefits of PMAY
Making Homeownership Affordable
PMAY offers various verticals to cater to different housing needs:
- Credit-Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS): Provides interest subsidy on home loans for eligible beneficiaries belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Low Income Groups (LIG), and Middle Income Groups (MIG).
- EWS/LIG: Up to 6.5% interest subsidy on loans up to ₹6 lakhs.
- MIG-I: 4% interest subsidy on loans up to ₹9 lakhs.
- MIG-II: 3% interest subsidy on loans up to ₹12 lakhs.
- Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC)/Enhancement (BLC-E): Provides central assistance of ₹1.50 lakh to EWS families for constructing a new house or enhancing an existing one on their own land.
- Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP): Financial assistance of ₹1.50 lakh per EWS house is provided by the Central Government in projects undertaken by states/UTs in partnership with public or private sectors.
- In-Situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR): Aims to rehabilitate existing slum dwellers by providing houses with the participation of private developers using land as a resource.
All houses constructed under PMAY are designed to have basic amenities like water supply, kitchen, electricity, and toilet. Preference is given to women, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, SC/ST, minorities, and other vulnerable sections.
Eligibility Criteria for PMAY-AP
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for PMAY, applicants must meet the following general criteria:
- No Pucca House: The applicant or any family member (spouse and unmarried children) should not own a pucca (all-weather) house in their name in any part of India.
- Income Categories:
- EWS (Economically Weaker Section): Annual household income up to ₹3 lakhs.
- LIG (Low Income Group): Annual household income between ₹3 lakhs and ₹6 lakhs.
- MIG-I (Middle Income Group I): Annual household income between ₹6 lakhs and ₹12 lakhs.
- MIG-II (Middle Income Group II): Annual household income between ₹12 lakhs and ₹18 lakhs.
- Aadhaar Mandatory: A valid Aadhaar card is mandatory for the applicant and all family members.
- Woman Ownership: For EWS and LIG categories, the house must be in the name of the female head of the household or in joint ownership with a female member. This condition may be waived if there is no adult female member in the family.
- First-Time Beneficiary: The applicant should not have availed of any housing assistance from the Central or State Government under any other housing scheme.
Specific Exclusions for PMAY-G (Rural)
For PMAY-G, additional exclusions based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 data apply, such as owning motorized vehicles, having a Kisan Credit Card with a high limit, being a government employee, or paying income/professional tax.

Steps to Apply and Check Status
The application process for PMAY can be done both online and offline:
Online Application (PMAY-U):
- Visit the Official PMAY-MIS Portal: Go to pmaymis.gov.in.
- Citizen Assessment: Click on the "Citizen Assessment" tab and select the appropriate category (e.g., "Benefit under 3 components" or "For Slum Dwellers").
- Enter Aadhaar Details: Provide your Aadhaar number for verification.
- Fill Application Form: Complete the detailed application form with personal, family, income, and property details.
- Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of required documents (income proof, land documents for BLC, etc.).
- Submit and Print: Review all details, enter the captcha, submit the form, and take a printout of the acknowledgement for future reference.
Offline Application (PMAY-G & PMAY-U):
- Grama/Ward Sachivalayam: Visit your nearest Grama Sachivalayam (rural) or Ward Sachivalayam (urban) office.
- Common Service Centers (CSCs): You can also apply through authorized Common Service Centers by paying a nominal fee (approx. ₹25 + GST).
- Fill Form & Submit: Obtain the application form, fill it with assistance if needed, and submit it along with the required documents.
Checking Application Status:
You can track your PMAY application status online on the PMAY-MIS portal by using your Assessment ID or by providing your name, father's name, and mobile number.
