Key Scholarship Schemes

Here are some of the major scholarships available for students in Jammu & Kashmir:

  • Post-Matric Scholarship: For students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and Economically Backward Classes (EBC) pursuing studies from Class 11 to PhD level.
  • Pre-Matric Scholarship: For students from Class 1 to 10 from SC, ST, and OBC categories to support their school education.
  • Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS): Specifically for students from Jammu & Kashmir to pursue higher education outside the union territory. This scheme is managed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

How to Apply for a Scholarship

Most government scholarships for students in J&K are applied for through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The process is fully online.

Step 1: Get Your Documents Ready

You will need the following documents in digital format before you start the application process:

  • Aadhaar Card of the student.
  • Domicile Certificate of Jammu & Kashmir.
  • Caste/Category Certificate (if applicable).
  • Income Certificate of the family.
  • Mark sheet of the previous academic year.
  • Bank passbook copy.

Step 2: Register on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)

Go to the official National Scholarship Portal. If you are a new user, click on "New Registration" and fill in all the details. Note down the application ID and password.

Step 3: Fill and Submit the Application Form

Log in to the portal and select the appropriate scholarship scheme. Fill out the application form with all the required personal, academic, and bank details. Upload the necessary documents and submit the form.

Step 4: Await Verification

The application will be verified by your educational institution and then by the concerned government department. You can track the status of your application on the NSP portal using your application ID.
