1. How to Apply for a New Ration Card

The application for a new ration card in Meghalaya is an offline process conducted through the local Supply Offices. The forms, however, can be downloaded online.

  1. Download the Application Form: Visit the official website of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs to download the "Claims and Objections Form" for either Rural or Urban areas.
  2. Fill and Collect Documents: Fill out the form accurately and gather all the necessary documents, including Aadhaar card, income certificate, and a passport-size photo.
  3. Submit at District Supply Office: Submit the completed application form and the supporting documents to the District Supply Office or the local Food Inspector's office.
  4. Verification Process: A Supply Officer will conduct a physical inspection to verify the details provided in the form.
  5. Issue of Ration Card: If the application is approved and you meet the NFSA eligibility criteria, a new ration card will be issued, and your name will be added to the beneficiary list.

2. Eligibility Criteria for a Ration Card (NFSA)

Ration cards are issued to households identified as Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Priority Households (PHH) based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria under the National Food Security Act, 2013. A household is **excluded** if it meets any of the following conditions:

  • Possesses a 4-wheeler motorized vehicle, A.C., or computer with internet.
  • Has a family member who is a regular government employee.
  • Owns a refrigerator, washing machine, or landline phone.
  • Owns irrigated land of more than 2.5 acres.
  • Owns more than 7.5 acres of land.
