About Startup Bengal

Startup Bengal is a comprehensive policy launched by the Government of West Bengal's Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises & Textiles. The initiative is designed to build a robust ecosystem for startups by providing them with the necessary resources and support to grow. It focuses on creating an environment that encourages innovation, promotes entrepreneurship as a career choice, and provides a network of mentors, experts, and investors.

Key Objectives & Benefits

The policy aims to provide a range of benefits to eligible startups, including:

• Financial Incentives: Access to early-stage funding, seed capital, and grants for product development, prototype creation, and market entry. Startups can also receive assistance with filing and prosecution of patents.
• Mentorship & Incubation: The government facilitates a network of mentors and experts and encourages the establishment of Entrepreneurship Development Centres (EDCs) and Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) across the state.
• Infrastructure Support: Startups can get preferential access to land and physical spaces in industrial estates and clusters, with a certain percentage of space earmarked for them.
• Regulatory Simplification: The initiative seeks to create a simplified and supportive regulatory framework to reduce the burden of compliance, allowing startups to focus on their core business activities.

Registration and Support

To avail the benefits of the Startup Bengal initiative, a startup must be recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Government of India's Startup India program. The registration process is online and requires the submission of documents and a brief description of the business model and innovation.
