Mizoram Health Care Schemes & Services

The Government of Mizoram provides comprehensive healthcare coverage to its residents through two major schemes: the state-specific **Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme (MUHCS)** and the central government's **Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY)**. These schemes aim to provide financial protection against catastrophic health expenses.

1. How to Apply for the MUHCS Card

The Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme (MUHCS) is a self-financed scheme for all bona fide residents of the state. The application and card generation process involves both offline enrollment and digital verification. The steps are as follows:

  1. Check Eligibility: The scheme is open to all residents. However, beneficiaries are categorized as Government Employees, Pensioners, or Contributory Beneficiaries (general public). Eligibility also depends on your Aadhaar and Ration Card status.
  2. Prepare Documents: Gather the required documents, which typically include your Aadhaar card, Ration Card, and in the absence of a Ration Card, a recommendation letter from your Village Council.
  3. Visit an Enrollment Center: Go to a designated enrollment center or the office of the State Health Agency. Here, you will be enrolled by providing your demographic and biometric details.
  4. Verification and Card Issuance: Your application will be processed and verified by the State Health Care Society. Once approved, your individual MUHCS card will be generated and printed for you to use.

Note: Beneficiaries of the AB PM-JAY scheme are automatically included in the MUHCS and can use their Ayushman Card.

2. Scheme Benefits & Coverage

Both MUHCS and AB PM-JAY offer a range of benefits to reduce the financial burden of medical treatments:

  • Cashless Hospitalization: Beneficiaries can avail cashless treatment at empanelled public and private hospitals for various surgical and medical packages.
  • Wide Range of Coverage: The schemes cover pre-existing diseases and include pre-hospitalization (e.g., diagnostics) and post-hospitalization expenses. The specific coverage amount varies by scheme and beneficiary category.
  • Critical Illnesses: Both schemes provide coverage for a list of critical illnesses, offering substantial financial assistance for major health emergencies.
